Short on time? Big on adventure? Try this fast and exhilarating three-hour biking alternative. Travel by van to the top of Hobart's icon, Mt Wellington. Climb aboard your sturdy mountain bike, ready for the 1270m descent back to sea level. It's all downhill from here!
Depart the pier and drive 21km by van to the summit of Mount Wellington, which will take approx. 40 minutes. Your guides will fit you with a helmet and gloves and go through a detailed safety and rules briefing. After a practice ride at the summit, regroup and follow your guide on a downhill descent of the mountain. The winding mountain road takes you down to the foothills where you can choose to experience the thrill of the off-road section (5km of winding, twisting ups and downs – only for the adventurous at heart) which brings us out at Cascade Gardens where we enjoy a well-deserved rest and quick snack. We then rejoin those that stayed riding on the road and cycle through the outer suburbs of South Hobart and Battery Point. Your journey finishes right on the waterfront of Hobart.
This experience voucher is valid for 12 months from date of purchase.
Venue:
Hobart, Tasmania.
Session Length
Allow 3 hours for this experience. The drive to the top of the mountain will take 40mins. You will be riding for approx. 2 hours, but that includes several stops for photo opportunities, regrouping and snacks. Rides operate twice daily, except during July and August.
Guidelines:
This ride is geared for non-riders as well as riders. The majority of the riding is downhill so fitness isn’t a big issue. Included in the price is transport to the summit, guides, helmet, bike, jacket, and a snack at the bottom.
Numbers:
This experience is for 2 people however there may be up to 18 others in the group. With 20 guests, there will be 3 guides to ensure safety measures are maintained to a premium. There are no minimum requirements for trip departures.
Spectators:
There are plenty of roadside viewing points for spectators.
Weather:
Always expect 10 degrees colder at the top of the mountain than in the city, and be pleasantly surprised when the weather at the summit is beautiful! Occasionally snow forces road closure so check your booking in advance – riding in amongst snow is a fantastic experience, if dressed appropriately.
Other Info:
Everything is done to ensure your safety, the rest is up to you. We wear bright coloured clothing and helmets. We always ride on the left and keep an eye on traffic. The bikes have very good V-brakes and are checked before every ride.
