Always dreamed of writing or illustrating for children? This hands-on full-day workshop looks at how the pictures and text work together; making a storyboard; character and plot development; locating and approaching publishers.

There is more to creating picture books than jotting down a short story and producing a few pictures. Learn the 32 page rule; about subplots; storyboards; how the illustrations work with or against the text; how to locate publishers and convince them with your cover letter; how to format your submission. There is time to give individual feedback to stories brought to the session.

Your tutor has fourteen years experience in helping people write and illustrate for children with many manuscripts successfully reaching publication. Also a (long) lifetime of contact with childrens books (research and teaching). She has written a book about young children’s responses to books from birth to eight.
