If you have a great idea for a book, this seminar will show you how to get your work onto the shelf at your local bookstore. You’ll learn about the publishing process, how to pitch to publishers, what makes a winning book proposal and how to maximise your chances of being the next best-seller!

This “How to Get Your Book Published” seminar is conducted at the Sydney Writers’ Centre in Milsons Point, Australia’s leading writers’ centre.

Your presenter is a published author, journalist, actor and producer. He will share with you his tips on how you get your book published by traditional paper publishers such as Penguin, Random House, or Scribe Publishing.

The seminar will cover:

  • How to write a winning book proposal –You might have the best idea in the world, but you need to be able to “sell” it to a publisher in a way that makes them see it as a commercial success. We will show you how to write a proposal that will grab a publisher’s attention.
  • How to approach publishers ¬– It doesn’t have to be scary. You just need to know how to go about it professionally and inthe “language” they speak. Good publishers are always on the lookout for good authors, and approaching publishers in the right way increases your chances of success.
  • Do you need an agent? – What an agent does and if you really need one. We discuss the pros and cons of having an agent and how to interest one in your work.
  • How much should you write before approachinga publisher? – Do you really need to write your entire story before approaching a publisher? We talk about how much publishers want to see before they say “yes”.
  • Negotiating a fair contract – Publishing can be a tough world. We reveal what you can expect to get paid and how to negotiate the best deal.
  • The editing and re-writing process – There’s more to getting published than just scoring a contract. The editing and re-writing process plays a vital part.

By the end of the seminar, you will be well-equipped with the knowledge to get your book published. This course does not cover self-publishing or eBook publishing.
