Learn to let your words run free with this informative and inspiring travel writing class. Travel writing is an excellent way to earn money, especially if you love to travel. Your words will travel far, but you won’t have to for this class! It’s based in Sydney, so come and learn from an expert.

Love to travel, and want to combine that with writing? Travel writing provides an opportunity for you to partially fund or, if you’re lucky, fully fund a trip away. So if you love to write and travel, come and join our class!

Our class is a great introduction to travel writing. You’ll be industry savvy and creatively inspired in no time. If you like the idea of writing travel features for print or online media, then this class will be of great help to you. The course also covers publishing opportunities and how to make contacts in the field.

There is so much more to travel writing than lying on a beach and writing a story about it. While we don’t have time to go into detail about the craft of writing articles, you will learn everything you need to know about how to create angles, research stories, researching on the ground, and the travel story market.

This class will cover:

  • Publishing opportunities – newspapers, magazines, electronic media, travel literature, guidebooks
  • Types of travel stories – service stories, destination stories, personal essays
  • What it takes to be a travel writer
  • Some straight talk about earnings
  • Finding and focusing your story – subject, travel trends, developing your story
  • The art and craft of travel stories
  • Getting published and making contacts within the industry
  • Writing for travel guidebooks

Your tutor is an established author and journalist who has worked as a freelance travel writer and photographer for the last ten years. His work is published in major newspapers and magazines throughout the country.

Whether you travel to the colourful, bustling streets of India or to an isolated windy peak in Nepal, you will be able to understand how to write about your experience with ease. And, most importantly, you will know how to take the first steps towards getting your work published. Now, that’s getting somewhere!
