Do Queensland's best Defensive Driving Day with serious professionals. Get fascinating insights into defensive driving, and understand your car and the variables of the road. On a proper skid pan, you'll learn everything from emergency lane changes to skid control. Drive away ready for anything!

The aim of this first-level course is to provide post-licence driver training to raise awareness, skill levels and assess attitude and the potential dangers of the road.

You'll mix theoretical and practical driving sessions conducted at normal road speeds in your own vehicle.

We'll cover life-saving skills that everyone should know in a purpose-built training facility. A friendly theory session will explain what 'defensive' driving is all about, and identify the most important principles.

Following an explanation of the correct braking techniques we will put you to the test in a various practical emergency braking situations on a variety of wet surfaces.

After a lunch break (BYO), the afternoon session will cover vehicle dynamics and skid control. For the afternoon a combination of exercises will include vehicle balance and smoothness, and basic skid control.

A final short lecture will recap the day, re-assess the driver’s attitude before certificates and course notes are handed out as recognition of having completed the day.

Theoretical subjects covered will include:

  • Defensive driving - what it means and how it is achieved
  • Evaluation of the main part of the car - the driver!
  • Driver attitude
  • Practical road safety tips
  • Explanation of safety features of modern cars and how to use them
  • Tyres and their importance in driving safety
  • Vision skills
  • Basic vehicle dynamics and skid control

Practical exercises will be conducted in:

  • Assessment of vehicle condition
  • Seating and steering
  • Emergency braking with and without ABS
  • Emergency lane changes
  • Reaction times and their effects on stopping distance.
  • Vehicle handling/ steering techniques
  • Basic skid control

Venue:

This experience takes place at Lakeside Park Kurwongbah, 30 minutes north of Brisbane.

Session Length

This experience is run on pre-determined dates throughout the year. It's an all-day course, from 9am-4pm (7 hours).

This experience is great for everyone's education, from L-platers to 80-year's experienced! Most vehicles are suitable, from teeny-tiny minis to light commercials and 4WDs.

Numbers:

There will only be up to ten people per instructor.

Weather:

This experience is not affected by weather - your defensive skills are even more valuable in the wet!

Other Info:

Make sure your tyres are inflated to about 10psi above your vehicle manufacturer's recommendations. There is no facility onsite to inflate your tyres. BYO lunch as there are no shops nearby.
