This trip combines trekking along some of the most spectacular foot highways built by the Incas during the 15th century and a short trek in the Bolivian Cordillera Real, with time to explore Machu Picchu, Cusco, Lake Titicaca and La Paz. During the first trek we follow an uncrowded old trail around the base of the huge peak of Salcantay (6,280m) before entering another smaller range of snow-capped peaks and finally descending to Machu Picchu.

The trek has been described as one of the spectacular moderate treks in the world, giving you a taste of both high alpine trekking and hiking through the aptly named 'cloud forest'. We also spend time in the remarkable city of Cusco, plus lots of time to explore the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We then cross the vast high altitude plains of Peru to the shores of Lake Titicaca before continuing via Copacabana to the high Andean altiplano of Bolivia where we spend a few days trekking in the dramatic Cordillera Real before ending the trip in La Paz.

During the trek you can expect to follow the following itinerary:

• Day 1 – Arrive in Lima,
• Day 2 – Fly to Cusco,
• Day 3 – In Cusco and experience a city walking tour,
• Day 4 – Drive to the Sacred Valley of the Incas,
• Day 5 – Day walks in Sacred Valley,
• Day 6 – Drive to Mollepata and commence trek,
• Day 7 to 11 – Commence trek towards Chilca, views of Andean peaks,
• Day 12 – Train to KM104, trek classic Inca Trail to arrive at Machu Picchu,
• Day 13 – At Machu Picchu, take afternoon train to Ollantaytambo, drive to Cusco,
• Day 14 – Day at leisure in Cusco,
• Day 15 – Transfer by private bus to Puno,
• Day 16 – Visit Uros Islands and explore Lake Titicaca, drive to Copacabana,
• Day 17 to 19 – Commence trek around Condoriri massif,
• Day 20 – Trek to Huayna Potosi, drive to La Paz,
• Day 21 – Day in La Paz,
• Day 22 – Trip concludes in La Paz.

The 22 day trip includes 7 and 4 day trek, 9 nights camping and 12 nights’ hotel accommodation.
