Ever dreamed you might be able to handle some of the world's most amazing wildlife? Cheetahs are the fastest land animal in the world, and in the wild they are found only in Africa. Canberra's National Zoo & Aquarium offers one of the most amazing animal experiences in Australia - the opportunity to have hands-on contact, pat and play with one of these amazing cats. During your Meet A Cheetah experience, you will be in the same enclosure as the unrestrained cheetahs. At all times an experienced zookeeper will be with you to answer your questions and guide you as you interact with this incredible animal.
This experience voucher is valid for 12 months from date of purchase.
Venue:
National Zoo & Aquarium. Located about 5 minutes drive from centre of Canberra
Session Length
The encounter goes for 15 minutes; however participants do not have to pay extra for Zoo entry, So you can spend the whole day at the Zoo, however please arrive at least ½ hour prior to your encounter start time. Encounters run in 15 minute intervals between 2pm and 3 pm.
Guidelines:
Participants need to follow directions and have good mobility. As there is contact with cats, pregnant women need to get their doctors advise prior booking. Minimum age 12, minimum height 1.5.

Up to 2 people per encounter
Spectators:
Family and friends are welcome to pay general zoo entry, good viewing cannot be guaranteed from outside the encounter.
Weather:
Encounters run in all weather, excepting electrical storms or in high winds.

It was fantastic just been so close to those beautiful cats was something special I had my 12 year old granddaughter with me and she was just so excited to be patting these cheetah's.

The experience was fantastic, I would recommend it to anyone to enjoy and may even do it again myself. The Cheetah's were very friendly and relaxed and had an amazingly loud purr. We had a great time.

I actually gave this to my son as a gift. He is studying zoology at university and has always loved these cats. He was so impressed and said he could feel the adrenalin rush. I couldn't have given him a better present.

The only thing I wasn't happy with was I check the Zoo website for availabllity of times, which your websites states to do first. I then selected 2 time slots the first being 2pm and the second one was 11am. The time I got was 10.30. That could be looked at otherwise my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience

A very powerful, amazing experience for me! It was a 60th birthday gift from family, so I was a bit apprehensive about doing it ... until I got there and talked to the handlers, before I went in. They were great, talking about how to respond and touch the cheetah, Shasa, who is 10 years old. THE TIME FLEW! It was hands-on the whole time, with dozens of photos to remind me of a truly unforgetable experience!

My experience of meeting a cheetah was just wonderful. The animals were beautiful and amazing and the zoo staff were excellent. Shasa the cheetah was so relaxed and purred the whole time we were patting her! The other cheetah,Tansy was observing closely. I felt completely safe and the keepers expertise and knowledge was evident throughout the whole experience. They took photos of us with our own cameras which was great, as we could just relax and enjoy the special moment. Thanks to all involved...My experience of meeting a cheetah was just wonderful. The zookeepers were great! And the keeper who took the photos was very talented and even took video footage with my camera without even asking how to use it! It was an awesome experience with beautiful animals :)

Excellent that you get to spend time with the animal and it's not just a quick 'here the animal isn't moving take a photo' experience. You get to walk around with them, pat them and experience them the way they are naturally.

The experience with the cheetahs was everything I expected. We had no trouble getting into the zoo, they knew we were arriving that day and looked after us. The cheetah keeper was very professional and was able to provide answers to all our questions regarding the cheetahs. It was a great day.

Magical experience, absolutely fantastic! The cheetahs were so amazing, the keepers were brilliant!It was a gift experience for my Mum's 70th birthday and she was moved to tears! If you love furry felines, this is an awesome experience. The staff from the Zoo and the RedBalloon crew are so easy and helpful to deal with. I'd definitely do it again!

A once in a lifetime experience

The 'Meet a Cheetah' experience is something i will never forget. The staff at the Zoo are fantastic, and being able to spend time with the Cheetah one on one was the best present I have ever got! The National Zoo was so much more 'personal' than other bigger zoos. Having the opportunity to feed Tigers and Lions by giving a small donation on the day (no pre-booking required) was so much fun and unexpected. I have recommended it to everyone who I have spoken to about the Zoo.

Meeting the cheetas was amazing. All three decided to let us have a pat and the keepers were awesome. Ready to take photos and answer any questions. Would do this again in a flash. Canberra zoo was great too. Able to actually look at the exhibits for as long as you like without all the pushing, shoving and chaos of other zoos.

Zookeepers were generous with their time and were extremely knowledgable. Rachael was fantastic taking about 40 photos to remind of the experience, a geat gift and would recommend to any cat lover. P.S: Cheetahs purr!

The experience wasn't for myself, it was a belated 40th birthday present for my partner. When my partner came out of the Meet-a-Cheetah enclosure she was absolutely glowing. The experience was something she had wanted to do since she first went to the National zoo many years ago. The excitement she felt/ showed - is still with her. Definitely one of the best gifts i could have given her.

Delightful - like petting a big, big pussy cat! RedBalloon and the Zoo made the experience easy - cheetah very relaxed, purring in the sun. Zoo staff took pictures with my camera giving me a good record of my time with the cheetah.

I was most impressed by the procedures the Zoo had put in place for our safety. We appreciated the opportunity we had to discuss a range of wild animal matters with the head keeper (whose name I have forgotten). We thank Bronte for the great photos she took. I was most impressed by the care your staff gave us regarding our encounter with the cheetahs and the attention given to our safety at all times. It was great talking to the principal carer (?) and to hear of his experiences in Africa when getting animals for your zoo. Bronte was kind in taking photos for us on our camera. It was great being so close to a 'wild animal'. Really exciting!

A wonderful treat to go and hang out with the cheetahs close up. Not the adrenaline rush some might think, more relaxing than anything with the cheetahs who seem to love a scratch behind the ears. Definitely one for cat lovers.
