Zoo Admission and Lion Encounter
There are many exciting animals to see at the zoo and you’ll see animals from across the globe during your visit to our zoo, located just outside of Adelaide. You’ll also get up close and personal with the King of the Jungle! Meet our lions and learn about their habits during the lion encounter!
Addax, bilbies, cheetah, dromedary, eland – you’ll see an A to Z of animals during your visit to our zoo. With your zoo admission you can spend the day viewing animals (both from Australia and around the world), traipsing our walking tracks, exploring the Visitor Centre and dining in our cafeteria.
The highlight of the day is the special Meet Our Lions behind-the-scenes tour. You’ll never get closer than this to the world’s ultimate predators. During your tour you will go backstage to observe the lions close up. Stand by as the keepers bring them into their night quarters, feed them and put them to bed. This is your chance to see firsthand the strength these creatures hold and the powerful vocal cords they can unleash. With a maximum of eight people in the group this is a very special experience!
You will also spend some quality time with one of our qualified keepers, asking them all of those questions you have always wanted to know the answer to. What do lions like to eat? How many are there in the wild today? And what is the life expectancy of the mysterious white lion? Visit our zoo to find out!
This experience voucher is valid for 12 months from date of purchase.
Venue:
Monarto, SA – approximately 70km south-east of the Adelaide CBD.
Session Length
This experience is available all year round on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays only. The zoo is open from 9.30am – 5pm and the lion encounter commences at 4pm and goes for 60 minutes. Please arrive at the Visitor Centre 15 minutes prior to your tour.
Guidelines:
The minimum age for this tour is 10 years. Children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by a paying adult.
Numbers:
The price quoted is for one person. There will be a maximum of eight participants in the lion encounter tour.
Spectators:
Not suitable for spectators.
Weather:
This experience may be affected by extreme weather. In the event of poor weather conditions we will contact you to arrange an alternate date.
Other Info:
Videos are prohibited however you are welcome to bring your stills camera. The price includes general admission to the zoo and a place in our special lion encounter tour.

The Lion tour was amazing and you couldn't wipe the smiles off our face on the way home. The rain was a downfall but been told that the lions are more playful in the rain and would rather the rain and energized cats. Have recommended both the zoo and RedBalloon today
