If you have ever wanted to experience the fun and romance of horse riding on the beach then this is your chance! This two-hour beach trail ride will take you along the wild deserted beaches between Warrnambool and Port Fairy, just three hours from Melbourne. We have horses to suit all abilities!

You will ride on your horse through Kellies Swamp, which is full of swans and other bird life from August through to January, into the tall sand dunes and onto the beach.

The beach is a beautiful, deserted, pristine expanse of sand that stretches for 20km from Warrnambool to Port Fairy, without rocky outcrops or any other stops.

Our horses love getting out in the fresh air so this is the perfect way to experience the sometimes windy Warrnambool!

We offer first-time riders the opportunity to enjoy beach riding as we provide great instructions before leaving the stables and have qualified staff who will help you ride our wonderful horses. We have specially bred horses to cater for anyone from the nervous beginner to the very experienced rider, so everyone can enjoy the thrill of horse riding along a wide open beach! Horse riding is truly a great activity. It is a fantastic way to spend some time outdoors, it's exercise for your whole body and it's a heap of fun!

You have the choice to get on a horse for the first time and canter up the beach, a thrilling achievement, or just take it easy and spend time taking in the scenery. Staff lead the groups so every rider will have the choice to go steady or give cantering a go. We don't, however, gallop our horses.

All seasons are great to ride in. Rug up in winter and experience the white-wash waves and beautiful gold-and-green sand dunes or come for a ride in summer and enjoy the pristine deep blue water and sunny beaches. If you are lucky, you'll catch a glimpse of a wallaby or a seal, otherwise you can just sit back and view a great range of bird life!

This experience voucher is valid for 12 months from date of purchase.

Venue:

Warrnambool, Victoria - approximately three hours west of Melbourne.

Session Length

This experience is available seven days a week (close on Good Friday, Anzac Day, Christmas Day). It is a two hour beach ride. Please arrive at 9.40am so you can be saddled up and ready for a 10am departure. Please contact us for alternative departure times.

Guidelines:

Both first timers and experienced horseriders can enjoy this experience. Minimum age is 10 years, regardless of experience. It is advised that participants over 120kg phone RedBalloon prior to purchasing this experience to ensure that there will be a horse available on the day.

Numbers:

The price quoted is for one person. During summer the average number of riders is ten, and during winter it is three.

Not suitable for spectators.

    The ride was beautiful however it was mostly walking and trotting (nobody likes trotting) with only a couple of short canters that only lasted a couple of seconds. as soon as the horse got going it was stopped. would have been nice to canter more. would still reccomment to those wanting a pretty beach walk on a horse. not as much though if you want a fun ride with a faster pace.

    We went with 11 friends and shared a great time on horseback and enjoyed the beautiful scenery on a perfect day weather wise!

    We had a wonderful day once we got there but we did not realise at the time that you had to validate all vouchers and therefore only one of us was booked in. We had to wait from 10am to 4pm before we could ride and travelled 5 1/2 hours to get there. But the ride on the beach was wonderful.

    Great ride, beautiful scenery and fantastic instructors. Option for more (longer) trotting and cantering would have been good.

    It was only because of my RedBalloon Voucher that I decided to go horse riding on the beach with my daughter. What a experience. We both were thrilled to ride on the beach and as a result my whole family decided to stay at Warrambool for a couple of days, which also led to going along the Great Ocean Road and stopping off at Apollo Bay which was lovely. The girls at the stables were all lovely and really took care of us.

    The tour guides made the experience really enjoyable but I feel the orientation requires more focus on riding technique and safety.

    The girls were lovely and the horses were so full of personality. Would've loved better weather but that's out of our control :)
