Snaking through the lush Tasmanian wilderness, this railway journey passes through some of the most impressive natural and historical attractions on the Tasmanian West Coast. Lounge in the comfort and warmth of our Premier Carriage. A daytrip through this precious and majestic wilderness is a must!

Hailed as one of the great railway journeys, this historic 35km railway of tight curves and spectacular bridges meanders through rugged wilderness, dense rainforest and gorges. This remarkable railway was born from a frontier spirit on the edge of civilisation and built against all odds by a fleet of remarkable people. You have the option to travel from Queenstown to Strahan or from Strahan to Queenstown, after which there will be a coach transfer back to your departure point.

The railway journey will take you back in time, to an age where man laboured through treacherous landscapes to forge a link between the mining town of Queenstown and the port of Strahan. Our railway forms a gateway for you to explore Tasmania’s unique rail heritage. During the trip, our staff will fill you with inspiring stories of the pioneers who built the railway more than 100 years ago.

You will enjoy this journey from the comfort of our Premier Class carriage. Our staff will make your experience as enjoyable as possible. Think sparkling at breakfast, pastries for morning tea and local cheeses in the afternoon. Our Premier Class carriage includes comfortable seating and a glassed-in rear door with a balcony.

Along the way you will stop at several heritage train stations, where your trained guides will bring to life the stories of these historic sites. At Dubbil Barril you will change trains and break for lunch. Choose from soup, hot pasties or gourmet rolls. In the Premier Class carriage, a selection of fine Tasmanian wines and beer is also available.

At Lower Landing you will have the chance to sample some of Tasmania’s finest leatherwood honey. Your guides will talk about the honey-making process while you lick the liquid gold from your spoon.

Then it’s off again on the train in the comfort of your carriage. You will pass over bridges spanning magnificent rivers, through massive hand-hewed rock cuttings, under the canopies of ancient rainforests and by plunging gorges.

Really enjoyed the train. Unfortunately a tree fell across the line which meant that the train went half way there and then instead of the bus we returned in the train. I was happier doing that, and thought the service was wonderful. The food was good, the hostess was lovely and all in all it was a great day out.

It was an amazing day from the wet start to the bright sunshine ending. The train trip was something special in the "tropical"like forrest, the service on bord was ten out of ten. The quality Tasmanian food and drink - just kept on comming and our hostess could not do enough for us. On the return trip by coach from Queenstown we rere in the hands of a very experienced and safe coach captain. A memorable day
