A sailing course suitable for the complete novice. This package has been designed to welcome you to the world of sailing, or refresh the memory of those who have not sailed for a while. We'll teach you the basics in a hands-on, fun environment out on the water!

As an accredited International Yacht Training Worldwide School, this course is globally recognised.

After a short introduction you will be shown aboard your yacht. Our yachts are all Hunter sailing boats which range in size from 33 to 45 feet.

You will then have a safety briefing and go through safety precautions involved with sailing.

You will also learn about the onboard location of parts of the yacht such as the heads and bilge pumps

The practical aspect of your course involved rope work, winch use, sail handling, sail technique and securing for sea.

Activity Highlights:

- Learn the fundamental principles of sailing onboard a luxury Hunter yacht

- Learn how to prepare the yacht for sailing

- Understand the dos and don’ts aboard a yacht

- Understand passage planning

- Learn commands for tacking and gybing

- Gain an insight into securing a yacht for sea and lookout duties

- 2 days of instruction onboard a Hunter yacht

- Maximum of 5 students per class

- 1 free 3 hour Social Racing position

Session Length

2 days from 10.00am to 4.00pm (subject to availability and numbers on board). Plus a 3hr Social Race afternoon conducted on the 3rd Saturday of each month (you have up to 6 months from the date of your course to use this place).

Guidelines:

We say if you can carry your own suit-case up a flight of stairs you are fit enough to sail. You need to be reasonably agile to move safely around the yachts. You must be over 16 to participate. This experience is suitable for singles, couples or groups.

Numbers:

Maximum 6 per yacht and instructor.

Weather:

If we cancel the course due to weather (ie. Deem it unsafe to sail) you are able to re-schedule at a time that suits you (depending availability). If it is just raining or overcast the activity will go ahead. We do not issue refunds.

Other Info:

All of our courses are taught by qualified instructors. Courses run on weekends and subject to availability of yachts. Summer weekends are particularly busy and should be booked at least 3 weeks in advance and Public Holidays 4 weeks in advance.

    We covered a lot in two days so I felt it gave me a good knowledge of sailing basics. Our instructor, Alan, was great. Day 2 was better as there were fewer people on board which meant there was more room and you got to spend more time doing hands on learning.
